A Little Smile

Beautiful stop motion animation by Gitta de Ridder:

And the message is simple - we all need a little smile sometimes. A smile can be infectious and really brighten up someone's day. I love the analogy of the darkness of the rain combining with the brightness of the sun to create a rainbow of colour. In life we need both these elements to live life to the fullest and show all the colours of our spectrum.

LOVE

This is simply so beautiful & uplifting I had to share.
An animated film produced and directed by Valentine Reinhardt for musician Sebastien Tellier, called 'Love' takes us on a journey through a colourful world in nature - flying on a bright green bird and catching the eye of a pretty purple mermaid. She emerges and crawls up the mountains for a dance, and all the animals in the jungle seem to have the look of love about the,. Our naked bearded character - (could he be John Lennon?!) plays guitar, as the sun goes down.

An uplifting and colourful piece that will brighten any day.

Mary and Max

I saw a really heartwarming and beautiful animated film at the weekend. Mary and Max is a hour and half long story about two strangers that live on the other side of the globe to eachother, both struggling to get by in the odd world in which we live.
Mary Dinkle, a lonely eight year old living in Melbourne, decides
to pick someone randomly out of the phone book to write to and ask where babies come from. The lucky recipient of her bizarre questions and cherry-flavoured chocolate bar is Max Jerry Horowitz, an anxiety-ridden, forty five year old Jewish New York-en who attends over eaters anonymous once a week. Over time their questions and philosophies about the world see their friendship grow as they do. The film offers a great insight into the odd workings of human society, and lessons of friendship in a humourous and heartfelt way. The scene and characters are lovingly created from plasticine and beautifully directed by Adam Elliot.

The Landrover spot 'Claymation' launches on TV this month - an animated ad of the classic car travelling through challenging terrain but cleverly using the changeable nature of clay, reworked and moulded into an urban city, a jungle and mountains. There is an elegance and charm about the story, that features a man transforming onto a stag, and a mountain melting to become a person surfing on the sea.
But I quite like the side project released alongside it: A viral featuring the main character "Clay Mason" talking to camera about his experience of filming the ad. Very personable.

Microscopic Dot

Just watched this on Farm's blog - A stop frame animation shot on a Nokia N8 using CellScope technology and Carl Zeiss optics makes for the smallest animation in the world. Created by Sumo Science at Aardman, the short film shows Dot, the character as she struggles to survive the microscopic world - Amazing!

RSA Animate

A great animation created by RSA and Cognitive media. This one 'The Surprising Truth about what Motivates Us' has a great message behind it for all employers out there - we're people not donkeys! The film lasts over five minutes, but is well executed and goes at the right pace, you want to see it right through to the end. Above all, it says we're motivated by autonomy, skill and purpose, not just money. We'll all do better at our jobs if we are given the chance to shine & learn more, not just if we're rewarded by money. Hmmm...it's all about balance methinks.
